Atlanta Municipal Elections

We are at the end of Early Voting for the municipal elections and we have had the largest turnout ever, both in terms of total voters and by percent of the total registered. The turnout is very pro-democrat with 53% having a 70+ VCI (considered a likely democrat) though the actual number is likely higher. In partner priority cities that number is 79% with a 70+ VCI. 40.5% are POC which is higher than in the 2020 general and runoff early vote periods.

SB 202 appeared to have an effect on the VBM #’s. 645 ballots were cancelled or rejected because the applications were received after the application deadline. 465 were cancelled or rejected because of issues with the voter ID. Together that is 1,107 ballots rejected or cancelled, or 36.45% of all canceled or rejected ballots. In the runoff ballots received after the deadline made up less than 1% of cancelled or rejected ballots.


214,338 voters have voted early, turnout is at 2.84%

Voters have exceeded the Early Vote totals in 2017

  • In Atlanta 38,027 votes have been cast early compared to 22,039 in 2017.

  • In Atlanta 72% of the 97,147 total votes were cast on election day. If that repeats in 2021 it would mean an overall turnout of 100,071.


SB202 leads to an increase in rejected ballots

  • 642 Ballots were canceled or rejected for applications failing to meet the application deadline.

  • 465 Ballots were canceled or rejected for issues with ID’s or signatures.

  • That represents 36.45% of canceled or rejected applications or an increase of 57%.

  • 50% of voters who had their ballots rejected or canceled ended up voting early.
